Overview / Material: Made from NatureWorks polylactic acid (PLA), which is derived from corn grown in the USA.
Applications: Great for fruit, salads, cold sides, and warm dishes less than 110 degrees F.
Sizes: Range in size from 6″x6″x3″ to 8″x8″x3″.
Design: Meet the strictest scientific standards for biodegradability and compostability and are ASTM D6400-99 certified for “compostable plastics”. They are light and strong like plastic, but will fully biodegrade when composted.
Storage: Should be stored in an environment that is less than 110 degrees F and not in direct sunlight or contact with heat.
Composting: Composting is required for biodegradation. These biodegradable clamshells are certified compostable by the BPI and will biodegrade within 180 days in a commercial composting facility, but may take up to a year or more to biodegrade in a home composting system.
Overview / Material: Made from wheatstraw, a highly sustainable fiber that is a by product of the wheat harvesting process.
Applications: Great for a range of hot & cold foods.
Sizes: Wide range of sizes and compartment combinations.
Design: Microwave and freezer safe. Gluten Free. The containers are soak proof and do not have any plastic or wax lining, however hot foods – and in particular hot, heavy foods – will cause the containers to “perspire” and some condensation can form at the bottom.
Composting: Composting is required for biodegradation. These compostable clamshells are certified according to ASTM D6400 specifications. The clamshells will biodegrade within 30 days in a commercial composting facility, and within 90 days in a home composting system.
